India plays catch-up in textiles

Article Abstract:

The end of textile quotas has seen modest revenue gains for India, hindered by strict labor laws. Clothing exports to the United States and the European Union from China jumped 59 percent to $7.5 billion last year, while India's textile exports increased just five percent to $2 billion. Currently, through to the end of July 2005, textile exports from India are increasing by 29 percent.

Swiss fight against tax cheats aids Singapore's banking quest

Article Abstract:

Singapore banking regulations have changed to include secrecy protections and trust laws filling a niche previously held by Swiss banks. European Union banking regulations were introduced to discourage tax evasion infringing on the assured and discreet banking services traditionally offered in Switzerland.

EU is set to prod China on textile exports
