Industry and environment in the Barcelona region

Article Abstract:

Industrial planning for the metropolitan region of Barcelona, Spain, could be more ecologically sensitive. Suggestions include restricting main industrial areas to the principal rail transport corridors; the development of industrial districts; and the reconsideration of plans to facilitate the conversion of former industrial sites. Recent industrial trends in the area are included; together with details of the current use of resources, such as land, water and energy, and waste generation. Future policy recommendations and proposals for further research are also given.
