Input price determination with downstream Cournot competitors

Article Abstract:

The problem of third-degree price determination in input markets are addressed and its welfare properties are considered. The complementary notion that input price discrimination can be harmful even if upstream monopolist has no interest to favor a particular downstream firm is highlighted and it is shown that under reasonable assumptions, the ability to discriminate would have a negative impact on consumer surplus and total welfare.
