Internet interface proves helpful in drug sales; convenience buys more time with doctors

Article Abstract:

AstraZeneca PLC put iPhysicianNet computer systems into the offices of doctors that are most likely to write prescriptions for its drugs. Doctors can learn about the company's drugs on his or her own time and then ask for a followup visit from a sales rep. Doctors spend about 5-9 minutes online with AstraZeneca whereas they spend only seconds with sales reps when patients are sitting in the waiting rooms. AstraZeneca is sure this is a more prosperous way to promote its pharmaceutical products.
