Investment banks back out of Taiwan

Article Abstract:

China's barring of Credit Suisse First Boston from participating in deals in China after the company hosted Taiwan officials at investment conferences has resulted in Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Merrill Lynch and Co., J.P. Morgan Chase and Co., ABN Amro, and Daiwa Securities dropping their planned roadshows in the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan. This has adversely impacted Taiwan's efforts to attract foreign capital and aid the island's economy. China's equity offerings are expected to account for up to half of all Asian equity offerings over the next year.
