CEZ (Prague, Czech Republic), power firm, invested 22.2 bil Kc in 1998. About 3.8 bil Kc of the sum was represented by financial investments, the purchase of a 36.6% stake in the mining firm Severoceske uhelne doly (Czech Republic). The firm's investment construction was focused on a programme on the environmental repair of production sources in 1998. The company started the pilot operation of a fluid boiler at the power station Porici, the Czech Republic, in July 1998, the pilot operation of two boilers with an output of 2x200 MW at the power station Chvaletice, the Czech Republic, in September 1998, and the pilot operation of two boilers with an output of 2x110 MW at the power station Melnik, the Czech Republic, in October 1998.

Skoda has been manufacturing railway cars for 80 years

Article Abstract:

Skoda Dopravni technika (SDT) (Plzen, Czech Republic), railway car manufacturer, will participate in environment-friendly mass transport in the US from 2000. In 2000 the firm should complete the first tramway of the type 10T within a contract for the city of Portland, Oregon, the US. The contract regards five tramway cars with an option for another 21 pieces. The US cities of Tacoma, Aspen and Philadelphia have also shown their interest in tramway cars from SDT. SDT, which is the final manufacturer of railway cars within the engineering concern Skoda Plzen (Plzen, Czech Republic), will celebrate the 80th anniversary of its production in the field in 2000.
