Investors expect battle for P&O after Singapore hints at a bid

Article Abstract:

With a possible bidding war in the making for the purchase of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., the British port operator's shares have risen 29.5 pence to 498.5 pence each. PSA International Private Ltd. and Dubai Ports World are the two companies showing interest in the British company which is the world's second largest port operator by containers handled.

Port boom underlines P & O battle

Peninsular and Oriental Steam Naviation Co. of the United Kingdom has increased profit margins and is ripe for a buyout. Dubai Ports World of Saudi Arabia is offering 3.3 billion Pounds ($5.86 billion) and rival PSA International Private Ltd. has trumped the bid with an offer of 3.5 billion Pounds.
