Ireland shines

Article Abstract:

Ireland was for many years one of the poorest nations in Europe, but it has made remarkable economic progress. Since 1994, economic growth has averaged around 7%, and income now rivals UK workers. Ireland's proximity to Europe and its flexible work force are two reasons for the turnaround.

Some experts assert that Ireland achieved it's 1995 8% growth rate, while other Western European economies floundered, by tightening its fiscal policy. An unfortunate side-effect is a lack of jobs: one worker in eight is unemployed.
