Israeli lightweight helicopter anti-tank systems

Article Abstract:

The Rafael armament development authority is offering a lightweight heliborne anti-tank weapon system that integrates the Spike missile with the Topaz electro-optical sensor turret and Guitar-300 missile approach warner. The weapon system, which was exhibited aboard a Chilean Army MD 530, is fitted with Topaz sensor turret which includes a charge-coupled-device television camera, long-wave thermal imager and laser rangefinder. The weapon system is controllable by the helicopter's gunner at the left-hand seat through a joystick and any suitable display.

Digital sighting on the bridge from Quick Pointing Device

Article Abstract:

Sofresu claims that its Quick Pointing Device (QPD) enables personnel on a vessel's bridge to acquire the absolute or relative co-ordinates of a target in digital form. These coordinates can then be injected by the device into trackers, fire control systems or other shipboard facilities. The French company's QPD is comprised of a 1.3 kg hand-held sighting unit, containing three fiber-optic gyroscopes connected by 7.5m of cable to a processor.

Finnish T-72 up-engining demo

Article Abstract:

Wartsila France has started testing its V8x powerpack designed for re- engining the Russian-built T-72 tank. The powerpack, which has many parts in common with that used in the Leclerc battle tank and incorporates an SESM transmission, has an output of 736 kW, thereby giving a 30% increase in power and a higher service interval compared with its predecessor.
