It should not be a miracle

Article Abstract:

Benzina AS ((Benzina) (Prague, Czech Republic), fuel distributor, expects a zero economic result in 2000. The firm's balanced economic result would be a success because as of the end of 1998 it has a cumulative loss of more than 1 bil Kc. In 1999 Benzina saw a balance loss of nearly 700 mil Kc under a positive operating result of 800-900 mil Kc. According to the firm's management, the main reason for the loss is the fact that Benzina invested about 7.7 bil Kc in the modernisation of its petrol stations during 1996-1999. Benzina does not plan to decrease the number of its 339 petrol stations, one third of which are unprofitable. The firm will sell some of the petrol stations and will build some new stations to maintain its market position.
