The new Italian government has taken steps to dispose of its shareholding in Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni (INI), via the issue of five year convertible bonds. Some shares were made available two years ago in an IPO, and this is the third and final tranche. Effective controlling position was transferred to public sector banks in the private placement, including Casse di Risparmion dell Provincie Lombarde.

Utility sales encounter roadblocks

Article Abstract:

The privatization of electric utilities in Ontario is moving slowly. The 33% transfer tax which was introduced on Mar 22, 1999, in the province will be placed on electric utilities that enter the private sector. Many cities do not want to privatize electric utilities but Lindsay and its neighboring towns are eager to privatize.
