Italy's Prodi discloses details about talks with Telecom Italia

Article Abstract:

Prime Minister Romano Prodi of Italy has disclosed talks with Telecom Italia S.p.A. of Italy Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera. The move is unusual, however it is an attempt to prevent the spin off of the cell phone unit and ensure the security of the Italian government. Telecom Italia S.p.A. is valued at greater than 40 billion Euros (approximately $50 billion).

Piaggio e Compagnia S.p.A. of Italy is a successful financial turnaround of Chief Executive Roberto Colannino, an Italian industrialist. The motorcycle manufacturer is planning to open new factories in China and a stock market listing this year. Piaggio is the maker of the famous Vespa scooter.

The acquisition of financially stressed Aprilia S.p.A. by successful scooter maker Piaggio e Compagnia S.p.A. is discussed. Piaggio's goals for turning around the ailing motorcycle company and its plans for expansion into the Chinese market are also outlined.
