'I've nothing to hide' says ex-McBride buy-in candidate

Article Abstract:

UK Cameron Consultants Managing Director George Hosking tried to win damages of 4 million pounds sterling when he sued Legal & General Ventures for not paying him benefits and shares he claimed he was entitled to, for work carried out on the purchase of a firm called McBride in 1997. Hosking claims he is now the victim financial investigations, with several accounts of people impersonating him in order to gain financial information. Hosking is appealing against the court ruling.

Consolidation has only just begun

The European paper, pulp and packaging sector has seen some consolidation over recent years, and this trend is now set to accelerate. Experts believe that consolidation will be attractive because companies can continue to boost earnings per share by cost cutting following acquisitions. Shareholders now see investment in new facilities and equipment as risky, and prefer companies to expand by purchasing existing operations.

Spanish deals off the menu

Article Abstract:

European acquisitions of Spanish companies during 1995 totalled 119 transactions, valued at 1.4 billion pounds sterling, compared to 155 deals, worth 4.4 billion pounds sterling, in 1994. The biggest transaction was the 346 million pounds sterling acquisition of telecommunications company Telefonica Transmision de Datos by a Unisource-led consortium. A table listing European acquirers in Spain during 1995 is included.
