Jager's gamble

Article Abstract:

Procter and Gamble aims to emphasize innovation and plans to license patents as a way of achieving this. The company is faced with pricing pressure in the consumer product industry where its market share has decreased. The company invests in research but under 10% of patents are used for the company's brands. Innovation has been stifled by the company's culture and the aim is to change this through streamlining management and making decision-making faster. New products are not always successful, so innovation is not always welcomed by managers.

Taking a gamble

Article Abstract:

Macau is to be handed over to China by Portugal, and Portugal is concerned about Chinese plans to place a Chinese garrison in Macau, with local government expected to fund the barracks. This could affect Macau's autonomy. There are disputes about passports and the judiciary, and there is also a dispute between China and Portugal about crime levels in Macau. Portugal argues that China could do more to control the problem, which has been exacerbated by the activities of triad gangs.
