Japan's stock-market shutdown reveals cracks in trading system

Article Abstract:

Technological glitches at the Tokyo Stock Exchange of Japan caused a shut-down in trading yesterday afternoon preventing its computer systems from short circuiting. The emergency closure occurred after a series of technological problems recently, although it is the first in its history of 57 years of operation. The malfunctioning could impede Japan's economic recovery.

Citigroup extends apology to Japan

Article Abstract:

Citigroup Inc. is closing its Cititrust and Banking Corp. unit in Japan due to compliance problems it uncovered at the subsidiary. Citigroup Chief Executive Officer Charles Prince bowed as he apologized at a news conference for violations at another Citigroup unit that has been ordered closed by Japanese regulators.
