Jasper Johns: The Sculptures

Article Abstract:

The sculptures of Jasper Johns, who is better known for his drawings, prints and paintings, are currently being exhibited at the City Art Gallery, Leeds, England. These are mainly pre-existing objects, but have been sculpted in such a way that they are estranged from their real function. They clearly display the sculptor's sense of 'touch,' showing a highly worked surface. They reflect his interest in logical procedures and in art as a means of investigation.

New expression for familiar forms

Article Abstract:

Some of Ursula von Rydingsvard's sculptures are being exhibited at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park at Bretton Hall. von Rydingsvard's sculptures are mostly made in cedar wood milled beams, which are cut and shaped, and built up in layers. Finally the sculpture is laminated and rubbed with graphite. Vessels are a recurring theme of her work, which also has echoes of Minimalism, particularly in the work Slepa Gienia.
