Joint venture takes the biscuit

Article Abstract:

United Biscuits has invested in production in China following initial experiments with technology transfer from 1985. The company initially used official figures on the economy to assess market potential, but as much economic activity is unrecorded, the potential was underestimated. A Hong Kong company was acquired, and its plant closed, with production shifted to China. The company has gained a lead of three years in the Chinese market through this investment.
