Journey to the West

Article Abstract:

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, United States, is hosting a major exhibition of 5,000 years of Chinese art and culture. Various experts put together different categories of exhibits and art historians visited China 12 times and went to 50 cultural centres to select the artifacts for the exhibition. Jade dragons and terracotta warriors are included, plus more unusual things, like a terracotta horse. Contemporary Chinese art is not being included because the venue was not built in time. Some people suspect China was reluctant to promote its modern art because it is subversive.

Artistic getaway

Article Abstract:

Benesse House, which opened in 1992, is an unusual museum in that it combines a guesthouse, art museum, a miniature railway and a landscaped garden. A basic guestroom providing dinner and breakfast costs 18,000 yen but guests have examples of the art collection in their rooms. Cheaper accommodation is available at the International Campground where a heated tent costs 4,500 yen. The museum is reached by train and ferry.
