PAPER INDUSTRY: TAMIL NADU NEWSPRINT AND PAPERS

Article Abstract:

Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers (TNPL) produces newsprint and duplicating papers. It imports nearly 50 percent of its raw materials needs. It has been able to use only 30 percent of bagasse pulp instead of the envisaged 50 percent. To reduce its losses, it has started making copier paper for the Rs200 crore market. TNPL has been hit by its high interest cost and depreciation charges. (uh)

JK Pharmachem Ltd, a Tamil Nadu based producer of penicillin, has posted a net loss of Rs11.14 crore on total sales of Rs60.91 crore in the first 9 months of 1997-98. The company has not been doing well at a time when other pharmaceutical companies are registering encouraging performances. Its scrip is currently being traded at Rs3.10 at the bourses. (khr)
