KSDL SORE OVER MOVE ON ROYALTY

Article Abstract:

The Government of Karnataka's plan to levy a royalty of five to six percent on Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Limited (KSDL) has met with opposition from the company. The government's move is aimed at recovering the amount it has spent on reviving KSDL which was formerly a sick company. KSDL feels that the government's plan would affect its net profit. It hopes to come out of the purview of the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction by the year 2001. KSDL which has posted a net profit of Rs15 crore during 1997-98, hopes to post a sales of Rs120 crore and a net profit of Rs20 crore during 1998-99. It also plans to post sales of Rs200 crore by the year 2000. (ag)

TRANSPORTERS HIKE FREIGHT RATE BY 10%, TO GO ON STIR

Article Abstract:

Transport companies ins India have increased their freight rates by 10 percent. This follows the hike in the price of diesel by Re1 per litre in the budget of the Government of India for 1999-2000. The associations of road transporters have announced a nation-wide strike against this price increase. The per tonne per km hike would work out to 0.30 paise over the January 1999 diesel price for heavy commercial vehicles and 0.20 paise for light commercial vehicles. (um) (kvr)
