Keeping the dirt at bay

Article Abstract:

UK newspapers have been predicting an extremely dirty election battle in 1997, but it is not likely to match the meanness of some past contests. US- style paid negative TV ads are not allowed. The Labour Party is so far ahead that dirty tactics will only hurt. John Major may rather lose with dignity.

The flock instinct

Article Abstract:

Pollsters continue to predict a win for Labour in upcoming elections, but they are not predicting a landslide. In fact, the results will probably be something of a landslide for Tony Blair. An Economist poll shows Labour winning 55% of the vote.
