Kirch, Bertelsmann intensify talks on Pay-TV deal

Article Abstract:

Bertelsmann AG is in advanced negotiations to sell 45% of the Premiere pay-TV channel to Kirch Group for close to $1 billion. Kirch would acquire the stake in Premiere from CLT-Ufa, which is largely owned by Bertelsmann, for a price amounting to about $1250 per Premiere subscriber. Kirch would then be free to merge Premiere with its DF1 digital pay-TV company. Germany's Federal Cartel Office now seems receptive to such a merger, since it would separate Kirch from Bertelsmann and perhaps encourage others to develop a competing pay-TV platform.
