Korea's LG Electronics spurs concern with continued ambitious investments

Article Abstract:

American investment analysts expressed concern over LG Electronics Inc.'s ambitious global plans. The company, which recently acquired Zenith Corp., intends to continue with its acquisition program, focusing mainly on US-based investments. Analysts warned that LG Electronics may suffer losses similar to those experienced by many Japanese corporations in the early 1990s. However, LG Electronics officials dismissed such concerns and stressed that the company will only proceed with its acquisition plans after careful deliberation.

South Korea uses Japan's own model to steamroll over global chip market

Article Abstract:

Japanese semiconductors companies are becoming increasingly concerned about the growing competition they face from South Korean chip makers. Over the past few years, the Japanese have watched uneasily as South Korean companies took an increasing share of the global semiconductor market. Ironically, the South Koreans are using the very same aggressive pricing and constant investment tactics the Japanese used in taking away market share from the US semiconductor industry during the 1980s.

Japan chip makers continue to expand despite downturn

Article Abstract:

Japanese semiconductor manufacturers continue to spend money on ambitious expansion projects despite US experts' predictions of an impending downturn in the industry. The attitude of the Japanese sharply contrasts with that of US chip makers, many of whom have already started cutting back on planned expansion projects. Japanese semiconductor firms believe that the recent decline in prices is only a temporary phenomenon and they expect the market to pick up soon.
