Korea's 'skin scrub' tours sell out to Japanese women

Article Abstract:

South Korea's skin-scrubbing services are much cheaper than those offered in Japan and thus, have spurred many Japanese women to visit the country. The skin peeling technique gives the customer a new skin layer that is smoother. While it costs $120 in Japan, South Koreans only charge $15 for the same service. Travel statistics show that in 1993, the increase in the number of Japanese women entering South Korea was around 13%. The elimination of the visa requirement for Japanese travelers was also seen as having partly influenced this trend.

Tempers flare in battle among Seoul newspapers

Article Abstract:

The rivalry among Korea's over 30 major newspapers is intensifying. The dailies are resorting to tactics such as door-to-door sales and handouts to increase their market shares. However, analysts are not expecting an industry shakeout since many of the newspapers have strong financial support. A distributor for the daily Chosun Ilbo was stabbed by an agent for another daily, Joong-Ang Ilbo, because Chosun ran several negative articles on Samsung, which owns Joong-Ang.
