The French firm Houdebine, specialists in both fresh products (75% of production) and frozen products (25%) based on poultry and vegetables, reported a 1997 turnover of FFr 240mn with 240 employees. The firm, which has recently invested FFr 20mn in the increase of its production capacity, should take on 35 further staff. Sales are mostly realised in the outside catering sector. The firm, which realises 20% of its turnover internationally, has recently signed contracts with both China and Japan to export its products which will be aimed at the general public. Article Abstract:

During his visit to China in the beginning of August 1998, Louis Le Pensec, the French Minister of Agriculture, spoke in favour of French food products. He urged better access for French products in China, and deplored China's high customs duties for products such as wine and spirits, and dairy products. Mr Le Pensec signed two veterinary and agro-chemical frame-agreements with China in order to obtain easier access for French food products.

Le groupe Flo signe un accord de joint-venture en Chine

Article Abstract:

Via its local subsidiary Flo Asia, Flo, the French brasseries restaurants business which controls the Hippopotamus chain, has associated with Jin Hui Beijing, the Chinese hotel group to set up a joint-venture controlled by Flo for 60%. The new company is to invest US$ 2mn. A Flo brasserie restaurant will open in Beijing in 1999 but both partners expect to develop a network of some 30 restaurants through franchise agreements.
