Architectural practice,DEGW encourages its staff to learn other European languages. The firm does 10% of its business on the continent of Europe and believes language skills enable staff to be percieved as helpful and ready to adapt. Recruitment policy favourscandidates with a second language while existing staff at all levels are sent on intensive courses before starting on foreign projects and generally encouraged to study languages in their own time. Making learning about contracts less of a bore

Article Abstract:

Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, has introduced a new module to its Masters degree course in construction management, to make the study of contracts more interesting. Students, faced with looking in detail at why clauses are included in contracts, can gain a better understanding of the way contracts are written. Students learn the importance of making choices through a simulated project, using workshops and briefing sessions, in a pleasant way.
