Limits to India's alliance with the U.S

Article Abstract:

The alliance between India and the United States is under threat as India seeks revenge on Pakistan, whereas the U.S. is trying to maintain Pakistan as an ally in the war against terrorism. Indian Defense Minister George Fernandes is the cause of some of the troubles, as he called for the attack on Kashmir instead of acting diplomatically to solve the problems between the two feuding countries.

Privatization could bring economic benefits to India by encouraging competition and higher productivity; however, critics believe that the government is selling public-sector undertakings too cheaply. Currently, privatizations are used mainly to plug gaps in India's budget, but reformers hope that company sales will increase to ward off a financial crisis.
