Liquid assets

Article Abstract:

Possible solutions to the many specific problems facing cities with degenerating waterfront areas are considered in the 'Waterfronts: The Challenge for Cities on Water' touring exhibition set up by the International Centre for Cities on Water. These generally neglected areas are often situated in the centre of towns, creating a poor image, and therefore need extensive redevelopment. The exhibition looks at around 30 different dockland projects from across the world, concentrating on those being undertaken by public bodies and those being developed by companies or planning consultancies.

Modern design elegantly poised on a cliff edge

Article Abstract:

The new leisure pool at Dunbar, East Lothian, Scotland is a bold modern building, well suited to its cliff-top location. The complex houses a range of activities under a wide-span steel and glass roof. The building is transparent and the interior is cool and open yet has an atmosphere of care-free seaside life. The leisure pool is in proximity to historic buildings but formal gardens and its bold design link it to its surroundings.

The swagger of a Scot

Article Abstract:

An exhibition of Robert Adam's Scottish legacy has the theme life, death and survival. Adam's designs cover a wide range of buildings and the exhibition describes those which have remained intact, those which have been lost and those which have been converted to modern use. Although Adam's reputation extended beyond his native land, the exhibition concentrates on his Scottish work.
