Concrete burns harden blacklisting

Article Abstract:

The Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the growing problem of potentially disabling concrete burns suffered by construction workers. The burns are caused by cement trapped against the skin, but the sensation is often not felt until damage has been irreparably done. Workers who complain about insufficient safety measures should be protected from victimisation, with some T&G members having lost labour rights by being forced to go self-employed. Cement hazards are being focused on by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspectors.

Estimating power consumption of agitators

Article Abstract:

A computer program was developed to aid project engineers in estimating the power consumption of the most common types of agitators or mixing machinery. The proposed program, which was formulated using Oldshue's formulas and Rushton's graphs, will be useful during plant design when power consumption information is critical for the setting up distribution systems.
