Local distinctiveness in villages: overcoming some impediments to clear thinking about village planning

Article Abstract:

Villages are perceived as beautiful and peaceful which stimulates significant demand for housing, whilst fuelling a preservationist approach to planning. Restraint policies have been adopted to counter the adverse reactions to poor designs. However these policies can hinder the economic and social regneration of villages. There needs to be a more flexible approach to encourage some changes to villages whilst retaining and enchancing local distinctiveness.
