Lockheed pursues Asian cellular market

Article Abstract:

The global telecommunications unit of Lockheed Martin Corp. will acquire a 30% share in Asia Cellular Satellite for almost $150 million. Asia Cellular has had difficulty in completing the financing of a new wireless telephone system that was built to provide service in the Asian region. The system would use satellites constructed by Lockheed. Asia Cellular is a partnership of several Asian firms. It is headed by PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara.

Vodafone wins bid to acquire a 10% stake in Japan Telecom

Article Abstract:

Vodafone Group PLC has reached a deal to acquire a minority share in Japan Telecom Co. Vodafone, which competed with British Telecommunications PLC, will acquire 10% of Japan Telecom for $1.35 billion (1.48 billion euros).

BellSouth purchase expands business in South America

BellSouth Corp. acquired a minority share in Tele Centro Oeste Celular Particpacoes SA of Brazil for $229 million (254.7 million euros). BellSouth acquired a 16.5% share of Tele Centro.
