Lower provisions fuel HSBC profit gain

Article Abstract:

HSBC Holdings PLC reported an improvement of 10% in its pretax profits for the first-half of 1999. The company was expected to see a decline in its earnings during the period. HSBC posted $4.07 billion (3.80 billion euros) in profits. During the same period in 1998, HSBC posted $3.69 billion. Analysts had predicted that the global bank would post a decline of 5%.

Almanji posts profit decline

Article Abstract:

Almanji N.V. posted a drop of 54% in its 2001 third-quarter net profits. The Belgium-based holding company posted 93 million euros in net profits for the period.
