Article Abstract:

The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd made a turnover of Rs2,603.69 crore in the 6 months ended September 1998 (Rs2,241 crore in the same period of 1997). Its net profit was Rs674.86 crore (Rs528.60 crore). It holds the licence for basic telecommunication services in Mumbai and Delhi and controls over 4 million DELs, accounting for around 25 percent of India's DELs. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd is installing a computerised system to cover all aspects of customer interface such as registration, billing and fault repair. It will also introduce call waiting in all exchanges, call transfer and abbreviated dialling, hotline and reminder call services as part of the Phone Plus facility. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd also plans to introduce attractive tariff packages for its high-use clients. (tsm)
