MALLYA BUYS FIVE PAPERS IN US

Mr Vijay Mallya, the Chairman of the United Breweries Group has acquired five newspapers of Marin Scope Group of the US. Mr Mallya has acquired Marin Scope, Mill Valley Herald, Ross Valley Reporter, San Rafael News Pointer and Twin Cities Times. These newspapers are community newspapers of California. Mr Mallya will function as the chairman and publisher of these newspapers. The deal was signed with Marron Reid, a law firm in the US. The Marin Scope Group is headquartered at Sausalito in California, USA. (vv)

MALLYA MAY SELL STAKE IN BEER BUSINESS

Article Abstract:

Mr Vijay Mallya, chairman of the UB group, may divest 15-20 percent stake in the beer business of United Breweries Ltd (UBL) to a foreign institutional investor. Mr Mallya holds a 44.06 percent stake in the company, which had a share capital of Rs37.8 crore as on March 31, 1998. Sources say that the Hong Kong based division of Monitor is negotiating to acquire the stake. It is likely that if a foreign investor is brought into UBL, then its beer business may be separated from its other activities. (khr)

US Co BUYS CALCUTTAN FIRMS FOR HOLLYWOOD ANIMATION

Research Engineers Inc (REI) of the US, which is involved in animation and software solution business, has acquired the two firms, Techna Consultancy Private Ltd (TCPL) and Webel Mediatronics (WM) based in Calcutta. The move of REI is to take up Hollywood animation projects. All the professionals working at TCPL and WM will be absorbed by REI through its subsidiary Research Engineers Private Ltd (REPL) located at Salt Lake in Calcutta. (gs)
