MARUTI PREDICTS 20% CRASH IN NOV SALES

Article Abstract:

Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL), a car producer, is expecting its sales to fall by 20 percent in November 1998. Following this the MUL has reduced its production from the first week of November 1998. The MUL attributes the fall in sales to a combination of factors, including the stipulation of Income Tax Department authorities for furnishing the permanent account number (PAN) for buying cars. In view of the slowing-down of market for cars, the MUL adopted major marketing and sales promotion strategies to improve the sales. These measures enabled the company to raise its retail sales during the second half of 1998. (ag)
