MITHUN'S REAL-LIFE PROJECT TAKES WINGS

Article Abstract:

The Monarch Group plans to enter into the civil aviation sector. The group which is promoted by film actor, Mr Mithun Chakraborty, has a presence in hospitality sector. The Monarch group proposes to enter the aviation sector through a partnership. It plans to set up Monarch Airlines which will offer feeder service and a helicopter service. The proposed diversification is expected to cost Rs30 crore. The feeder service will operate on Coimbatore- Bangalore, Coimbatore-Kochi and Coimbatore-Thiruvananthapuram routes. The group proposes to add more short haul routes in the future. Initially, the helicopter service will be available between Coimbatore-Ooty, Ooty-Mysore and Mysore-Bangalore. The group proposes to lease two helicopters. The group is yet secure the approval of the different authorities including the environment ministry for launching the helicopter services. (ag)(vr)

TNT, CARTOON NETWORK TO BECOME PAY CHANNELS

Article Abstract:

Cartoon Network/TNT, being telecast by Turner Broadcasting Systems, is to become a pay channel by mid-1999. Cartoon Network/TNT is viewed in 6 million homes. To increase its viewership and ratings, Cartoon Network has started airing a 2- hour daily telecast in Hindi, called Toon Tamasha. This is being done to extend its reach in the Hindi-speaking areas of India. The TNT films channel, aired after the Cartoon Network from 9 in the night, is being re-packaged. (pn) (kvr)
