Making the right impression

Article Abstract:

The UK's financial public relations firms are beginning to play a significant role in takeover and merger deals. In many cases, the main responsibility of these firms is to ensure that companies planning a deal avoid media coverage as far as possible. Most companies have some in-house public relations capability, but they recognize that there are advantages associated with employing an outside firm too. Financial public relations firms can now earn as much as 600,000 pounds sterling from working on a single deal, especially if a public bid is involved.

Bulge brackets versus the boutiques

Article Abstract:

PR may have a glamourous image but the reality is that chief executives expect their financial PRs to be as capable as other financial personnel. They are well thought of by other advisers and their views are listened to when deals are being negotiated. The function of the PR is to ensure that shareholders are aware of why the deal is being done and they also identify potential problems so that deals are conducted more smoothly and amicably. PRs tend to get involved at the early stages of a deal.

No longer a 'necessary evil.' (role of public relations consultants in mergers and acquisitions)

Article Abstract:

Public relations consultants are beginning to play a key role in merger and acquisition activity in the UK. Media coverage is extremely important in merger and acquisition deals, and negative publicity can have a significant impact on the progress of a deal, even if only for a short time. Public relations consultants can offer an objective view on key issues such as communicating the aims of a deal, and can give advice about how various target audiences will inter-relate.
