Malaysian fund thinks big

Malaysian equity-fund firm MBf Malaysian Fund is poised for growth, with the new management team pruning its portfolio to include only those which promise big yields. Company director and fund manager Charles Schmitt has reduced the fund's reliance on blue-chip holdings, reducing its holdings from 80% to 90% to 60% to 70%, and increasing its holdings on small-cap stocks to include firms which show a projected growth of 25% to 30%. Schmitt is also investing heavily in the stocks of Malaysia's banking and finance sector, which he believes may yield 20 times the projected 1997 earnings .
