Mannesmann's '98 net doubled, led by Telecom, engineering

Mannesmann AG posted an increase in its group net profit for 1998. The company's profits were higher than what analysts had expected. Mannesmann's net doubled to 630 million euros ($705.5 million) for the year. Analysts had predicted net of 540 million euros to 550 million euros. The company's net was greatly helped by strong growth at its telecommunications and engineering units.

Thyssen Krupp plummets 16% after profit report
