March of technology

Article Abstract:

Deregulation has spawned competition in Asia's telecommunications sector. The increased competition, in turn, has resulted in lower prices and introduction of newer technologies and better services. In China, for instance, the annual cost of a basket of business and residential telecommunications services has decreased 23% from April 1996. The plethora of new providers and services, however, have become a problem for regulators, who are struggling to make sense of the new environment.
