Master of tradition

Article Abstract:

Stuart Murphy, outgoing honorary treasurer of the RIBA, believes that few people could have done better than him, despite the recent news of the RIBA's deficit of 380,000 pounds sterling. Murphy defends the expensive commitments and activities of the RIBA, but recognises that spending must be controlled. Murphy believes that the RIBA guarantees a standard of professionalism, and for him, protecting this standard is the most important issue. Murphy is a founding member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects, which aims to give educational, social and charitable support to the profession.
