Measure for measure: sizing up for office space

Article Abstract:

There are many different ways of measuring the floor area of an office building, and the purpose for which the measurements are being made must be taken into account, as it will be different for budget estimates, plot ratios and letting areas, for example. A measurement of the floor plans to the outside surface of the external walls is usually taken for plot ratio areas, while for letting areas, measurements are made to the inside surface of external walls, excluding all common areas. The digitape is a useful new piece of measuring equipment, but must be used with care.
