Meet the riskmongers

Article Abstract:

It has become increasingly common for large companies to reassess the risks they face. They are beginning to treat risks as part of a single portfolio, hoping in this way to avoid purchasing separate insurance policies to cover each potential loss. Their long-term aim is to be able to manage their risks with minimal outside insurance or no outside insurance at all. It has not yet proved possible to bring together all a large company's risk into a single software model, but it is clear that risk management is moving in this direction.
