Mending China

Article Abstract:

China faces a number of serious financial problems such as insolvent state banks and a lack of reliable borrowers. There is concern that a financial crisis in China could hit Asia as a whole, but pressure on China to devalue has eased with the recovery of the Japanese yen. Prices have also dropped in China which means that the currency does not appear overvalued. China could still devalue, but this may not have a serious impact on the region. Chinese external borrowing is less than that of South Korea.
