New Toronto tower is commissioned

Article Abstract:

Toronto's Lester B Pearson International Airport has started using its new air-traffic control tower. The 64.5-m tower offers 360-degree visibility of all operating surfaces and provides control to aircraft and vehicles on the ground. It features a cab that can accomodate eight positions as well as offices for support staff. Among the equipment used by the tower are voice switch and communications system from Frequentis of Austria and digital voice recording equipment from Nice Systems of Israel.

Twin Cities in buoyant mood

Article Abstract:

The Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport handled a total of 33 million passengers and 366,000 tons of cargo in FY 1999. The passenger traffic is 73% higher than in FY 1990 and 37% higher for cargo. However, the airline cost per emplaned passenger rose only from $3 to $3.68 during that time period. Aircraft movements also jumped by 35% to 510,421 with air carriers accounting for 65% and followed by commuter airlines with 21%.
