Mitsubishi Heavy incurs big loss, plans job cuts

Article Abstract:

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. posted a 29.74 billion yen (270.9 million yen) pretax loss for the first-half of 1999. The company also announced that it would downsize up to 7,000 jobs. This constitutes 11% of its labor force. The move is part of Mitsubishi's four-year restructuring strategy.

Pharmaceutical unit of 3M is put up for sale

Article Abstract:

3M co. of the United States is planning to sell its pharmaceutical unit. The decision to divest is the first major move by the new Chief Executive Officer George Buckley. Sales at the health-care business have been flat at $4 billion in 2005, compared to 2004.
