Modeling investment uncertainty in the costs of global CO2 emission policy

Article Abstract:

The uncertainty about the future should be explicitly modeled to enable more accurate predictions about the impact of environmental policy on a country's economic development. To this end, the influence of stochastic models of investment returns on the US government's emissions policy was investigated. It was determined that uncertainty, when explicitly excluded from policy development models, results in undertaxation of carbon production, overinvestment in new technology and the depletion of nonrenewable fuel resources.

Simplifying a special class of mathematical programs arising in design problems

Article Abstract:

An alternative formulation was developed to simplify a special type of mathematical programs that is usually encountered in engineering design problems. The formulation proved to be effective in removing bounding constraints without enhancing the number of variables. It markedly reduced the number of iterations and computer time requirement in solving the problem.
