Models and methods for an integrated design of products and processes

Article Abstract:

Industrial competition involves product innovations that will satisfy the needs of the customer. Product development is dependent on market success cost, product quality and the period between product development and introduction. The early phases of product development also involved evaluations on production process requirements and market demands which influence the final product design. Furthermore, methodological procedures are needed for the processing of partial and uncertain information which will reduce development lead time.

A methodology for the reduction of imprecision in the engineering process

Article Abstract:

A precision convergence technique was developed for solving concurrent engineering design problems and reduction in design imprecisions. The method involved the utilization of a hierarchy of fuzzy constraint networks for the analysis of the design process at different levels of decision making that are appropriate to the chronological design stages. Furthermore, the hierarchy models information at different levels of abstraction corresponded to the actual design process.

Information management for concurrent engineering

Article Abstract:

A method for the integration of uncertain information and usage of small information was developed to reduce the lead time of product development. The methodology allows the employees of a certain enterprise to provide and use partial or uncertain information during the early stages of product and process development. Furthermore, the fuzzy query techniques were utilized to develop a more flexible and user-friendly access to uncertain information.
