Mortgage Lender won't confirm that it's interested in Woolwich

Article Abstract:

Alliance & Leicester PLC which expressed interest in acquiring or merging with another mortgage lender, will not confirm nor deny if it is considering Woolwich PLC. A Woolwich spokesperson would also neither confirm nor deny if it is Alliance's target for a buyout or a merger that would result in the third-biggest mortgage lender in the UK. An Alliance spokesman said the firm is unable to affirm market speculation but reiterated that it favors organic growth through whatever appropriate process, be it a merger or acquisition.

Depfa offers mark deal to globalize Pfandbrief brand

Article Abstract:

Deutsche Pfandbriefe-& Hypothekenbank AG of Germany has launched the biggest single non-government bond denominated in marks ever. Non-German investors are the target of the ten-year, five billion mark global Pfandbrief under a strategy to give it a boost in the international market and have it recognized as European agency-surrogate paper. The company intends to bring out two to four big liquid global Pfandbriefe per year, with sizes ranging from three billion marks to five billion marks.
