Article Abstract:

The performance of the fertiliser industry was affected in the second half of 1997-98 due to cuts in subsidy and feedstock price hikes. In the nitrogenous fertilisers segment, the estimated capacity utilisation was at 101.5 percent in 1997-98 (93.2 percent in 1996-97). Production increased by 17.4 percent. In the complex and phosphatic fertilisers segment, the capacity utilisation was at 102 percent (87.5 percent). The output of complex and phosphatic fertilisers increased by 15.8 percent. (gs)

FENA TO TAKE LATHER OFF HLL'S NIMBU SHAKTI, PLANS AD WAR

Fena, a major detergent producer, will launch a advertisement campaign against Hindustan Lever Ltd's Wheel, leading washing powder in the economy segment. It's campaign will make fun of the HLL's claim of lemon washing quality of Wheel. HLL has stated that it would offer appropriate response at the right time. During 1997-98, nearly 45 percent of HLL's total sales of Rs7,820 crore was from soaps, detergents and household care products. (ag)

MOBIKES OVERTAKE SCOOTERS IN SALES

Article Abstract:

During April-November 1998, the sales of motorcycles were 8.7 lakh and those of scooters 7.92 lakh. The sales of mopeds were 5.17 lakh. The sales of motorcycles were 10 percent more than those of scooters. The sales of motorcycles were 96,000 and those of scooters 90,000 in December 1998. The compounded annual growth rate of sales of motorcycles was 25 percent and that of scooters 11 percent in the period 1992-93 - 1997-98. (rk) (kvr)
